Saturday, March 17 is Saint Patrick’s Day, and the Skunk Train’s special Leprechauns Locomotive leaves the station in Fort Bragg at 4:00 p.m. (right after all of the Whale Festival activities in Fort Bragg). Be sure to wear green; the best dressed leprechaun wins a prize. Yummy comestibles on board include Guinness/Irish Cheddar Hand Pies and Irish Potato Salad, and you’ll be able to wet your whistle with North Coast Brewing Company’s Old #38 Irish Dry Stout while you enjoy the lilting sounds of live Celtic music. Not to be outdone in celebrating the Irish holiday, the ever-creative chefs at Cucina Verona have a St. Paddy’s day menu lined up with special dishes like Walnut Crusted Salmon with a Guinness Reduction, Scotch Broth made with lamb, cabbage, barley, and turnips, and Chocolate Stout Cupcakes with Bailey’s Irish Cream Gelato.

Mendocino Botanical Gardens Easter EggsEaster is early this year, and on Easter Sunday, April 1st, we can’t think of a better place to celebrate than the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens (noon to 2:00 p.m.) with activities for the whole family. Stroll the gardens, and enjoy the music, delicious food and drinks, adorable animals, and an Easter Egg hunt for the kids starting at 1:00 p.m. Bring your own basket and enjoy the fun.

The gardens are also the place to enjoy weekly Rhododendron walks every Saturday through April 28. The gardens boast more than 124 species of rhododendrons, and the guided walks are free with garden admission.

Emerald Dolphin Mini Golf celebrates their annual Easter Carnival, too. Kids can play free mini golf, enjoy carnival games, a bounce house, free craft and game tables and an Easter Egg Hunt. Line Dancing every Thursday from 7:00 p.m.–8:00 p..m. at the Fort Bragg Lions Club. All ages are welcome. Just follow the group “I’d Rather be Line Dancing” on Facebook and get ready to kick up your heels.

Almost Fringe Festival April 2018
Partner's Gallery Beyond the FringeCelebrate creativity county wide with everything from traditional to cutting edge, artsy to agrarian. The North Coast will be highlighted on April 13-15, and Partner’s Gallery artists are pushing their artistic edges “Beyond the Fringe” with solarized computer images, tea bags, decorated brooms, mysterious scenarios, Marcel Duchamp, paper balls, dangling fringes and velvet sea anemone tentacles. Exhibit through April 30, with a first Friday reception on April 6 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. It’s not too late to participate as a creative artist. Hollywood comes to the Mendocino Coast
Mendocino Coast Writer's ConferenceRegistration is open for the Mendocino Coast Writers’ Conference screenwriting workshop sponsored by the Hollywood nonprofit HUMANITAS, founded to nurture screenwriters. Director of educational outreach, Nina Sadowsky will teach The Business of Show: Successful Screenwriting. Check out all the great workshops here.

 Gloriana Musical Theatre will stage the first Northern California production of the Tony award-winning musical Fun Home. Jenni Windsor directs the critically acclaimed musical, based on the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel, with music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by Lisa Kron. Auditions take place on April 7.
