Flynn Creek Circus Will Amaze Audiences in Fort Bragg Labor Day Weekend
The Flynn Creek Circus performs in Fort Bragg on Labor Day weekend, September 1-4, offering still another thrilling reason to come and celebrate Paul Bunyan Days with us here on the Mendocino coast. The troupe features incredible acrobats and circus performers as well as musicians, actors, and visual artists. This is an athletic, innovative, and inspiring troupe, who will thrill you as they perform a complex show with hair-raising daredevil feats under the big top! Performances will be in Fort Bragg, in the field next to Mendocino College. Every night promises to be eye-opening. We’re sure you’ll be on the edge of your seats as each performer adds a variation to their routine never attempted on the stage before! Veteran juggler and circus performer Judy Finelli, who trained with (and was married to) world renowned teacher, juggler and unicyclist Hovey Burgess has written a compelling piece about the troupe in The Passing Spectacle, an online journal of circus arts. She starts with the headline: Contemporary Circus . . Straight Up with a Twist: Flynn Creek Circus Draws Edgy Experimentation into the Embrace of Postmodern Circus, so the lucky audiences who experience the show here in Fort Bragg are bound to be awed by the expertise, daring, and artistry of these top notch performers. Finelli is especially impressed with the vision, dedication and creativity of Flynn Creek Circus artistic director Blaze Birge and technical director David Jones, who “perform a thrilling double trapeze act combining original moves with heart-stopping drops and slides, all performed at lightning speed. They have competed around the world, collecting well-deserved medals and accolades. Viewing their act is not for the faint-hearted. I wanted to clutch onto anything I could in an effort to push these beautiful aerialists safely through their act..they have birthed a new style of circus for a new audience in a new century.”
Flynn Street Circus Inspires New Arts Organizations
Flynn Creek Circus has also been instrumental in inspiring the creation of several new arts organizations in the Mendocino County area including: Mendocino Center for Circus Arts, Stars and the Mendocino Dance Project, organizations which encourage young people to take up the challenge and explore circus arts. Tickets to performances are available here.
