Art Walk Will Offer Music, Art, Shopping in Downtown

Just look around in downtown Fort Bragg and you can see the renewal happening with newly-paved streets, new shops, new galleries and more. The Fort Bragg Promotion Committee and local merchants this Friday night launch the First Friday Art Walk as part of an on-going series of monthly events planned to reintroduce Mendocino Coast residents to downtown shopping.
The monthly Art Walks, to be held through October, will feature some combination of music, dancing, art and late evening shopping as the major draw to downtown stores and restaurants.
Activities scheduled for August 1, from 5 pm to 8 pm:
•Sidewalk chalk art for artists of all ages
•Free family skate night from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Mendocino Coast Recreation Center
•A self-guided tour of galleries and art displays in restaurants and shops
•Entertainment by Two Blue Dudes and the Trillium Tribe Dancers.
Music on the Street
The Trillium Tribe features seven local women who perform dances drawn from traditional tribal styles throughout the world culminating into a California Fusion Belly Dance.
“Once people discover how much Fort Bragg has to offer in terms of goods and services, we expect fewer will drive over the hill for shopping,” said Chriss Zaida, Fort Bragg Promotion Committee Chair and co-leader of the art walk program.
“When you can get most of what they want or need in Fort Bragg, at prices comparable Santa Rosa, why drive 200 miles and spend $30-$50 on gas to get them? It doesn’t make good economic or environmental sense. We urge people to shop Fort Bragg and save.”
