Plenty of Whales Expected for March 21-22 Festival

A couple of weeks ago off Fort Bragg’s coast, you could see Gray Whales — spouts and tails — everywhere as they headed south to Baja California. I haven’t seen many in the past week, but they’ll be back soon.
Experts say that as many as 20,000 whales migrate annually from the rich feeding grounds of Alaska to the fertile birthing bays of Mexico. This generally happens between December and March. Sometimes you’ll see stragglers–mothers and babies–hugging the coast as they head north as late as April. A number of events and activities are planned from whale walks and whale watching charters to chowder tasting and microbeer sampling. A great weekend for a Fort Bragg visit.
