A new event in this year’s Fort Bragg Whale Festival, March 21-22, is the Art Splash … Whale Migration 2009 competition: professional and amateur artists painted three-foot long plaster or wooden whales to be sold at silent auction to raise money for scholarships. The resulting artwork is beautiful, and those created by community and youth artists will be featured this month at Fort Bragg’s own art3G Gallery, which is located in the historic Company Store at 303 N. Main Street. A $1,500 grant from the Fort Bragg Promotion Committee helped make the Art Splash event possible.

Along with the whales created for this event, art3g will be showing nautical and whaling items plus literature from local collector, Mike Carter; Ukiah’s Jim Collings’ Noyo Harbor themed paintings; whale photography by Nancy Barth; and artwork from students in the local College of the Redwoods art courses Vallerie Warren, Karen Bowers and Juriaan Blok. An opening reception will be held at the gallery on March 6th from 5 until 8 pm.

Art3g is located in Fort Bragg’s historic Company Store at 303 N. Main St. Gallery hours are from 1:00pm – 6:00pm, Wednesday through Saturday or by appointment.
