First Friday - May 2012: You're Invited to Attend
For visitors and locals, First Fridays -- the first Friday of each month -- is a big artfest in Downtown Fort Bragg. Galleries will be open late for you to see new exhibits. And, perhaps buy a piece or two.
Many shops also are open so it's a good time to look for bargains as well.

Celebrate Cinco De Mayo with a $5 Ticket To the Past
In 1908, an English company packed the parts and pieces of a Fresnel Lens -- with sparkling new leaded glass prisms -- in several wooden crates and loaded them on a ship bound for California. A horse-drawn wagon with several strong men met the ship at Noyo Harbor in Fort Bragg and hauled the lens boxes 6 miles south to Point Cabrillo.
A year later, the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse light -- powered by kerosene oil -- was lit for the first time before a cheering local crowd.
