Glass Beach: Radical Example of Natural Recycling

Print This Post Print This Post

A recent post on WebEcoist, a blog about sensational, educational and inspirational green design, natural oddities and world wonders shared the story of our unusual little beach with its readers. Here’s how they describe it:

“Mother Nature tends to try to right the things that we, as humans, mess up – but it may take a while for her to catch up. This is startlingly apparent in Fort Bragg, California, where the forces of nature have taken what used to be a barren and disgusting trash heap and turned it into something truly beautiful”.

Glass Beach, right in downtown Fort Bragg, gained its unique name because of the tons of shimmering sea glass adorning its sand. To see the most glass, visit when the tide is low. And if a piece or two accidentally makes it into your pocket, not to worry. But if people take buckets or bags, someday soon we’ll have to change the name to NOGlass Beach.
