Earth Day Celebration: Be the Change!
Print This Post

Noyo Food Forest knows how to put on a good party. Especially when it comes to celebrating the land. For an organization wholeheartedly dedicated to growing gardens and community, I suppose there is no bigger hurrah than Earth Day. This year they are throwing the biggest and baddest party, yet. I asked the organization’s director, Susan Lightfoot about her hopes for this year’s Festival. This is what she shared:
The festival began as a gathering to dig the beds at The Learning Garden at Fort Bragg High School in April 2007. That year, about 50 people came to help out. The following year we decided to make it more of a festival, and 750 people showed up! Last year was absolutely fabulous, and 1,500 people came and partied for the planet. This event is really catching on! We want to develop it into a cornerstone community event, like the Whale Festival and the Salmon BBQ; something that people from all over Northern California want to come to every year.
Our intention for the festival is to inspire the community and catalyze ordinary people to do good works. We want to create a community celebration where all kinds of people of all ages and backgrounds come together on common ground and have a great time. The event builds bridges. It is the most diverse event on the coast, in my opinion. There is something for everybody! Of course I’m biased, but that has been our goal, to create an event where people look around and see their community in a new light, together, having fun, hippies and loggers and tweens and punks and dreadlocks and grannies!!!
Be there, or miss out! The day is PACKED, and there’s surely something for everyone in this exciting array of events, entertainment and activities… And you’re guaranteed to find some darn good eats (but you might have pedal hard to blend that smoothie!)
