Coastal Cleanup Day 2009

North Coast beaches attract thousands of visitors and locals throughout the year for beach walks, ocean kayaking, surfing, fishing, abalone diving, or sunset gazing. This Saturday, you have the chance to give back during Coastal Cleanup Day. The 25th annual California Cleanup Day will start at beaches throughout the state at 9 am, Saturday September 19th.

The Mendocino Land Trust, a  local non-profit, is hosting the event locally and will organize cleanup crews and provide trash bags and gloves.

See below for cleanups near Fort Bragg, listed from south to north. Those with special meeting locations have details; all other locations meet in the parking area or will be easy to find on the beach.

  • Hare Creek Beach
  • Noyo River Kayak Cleanup – Meets at Dolphin Isle. Bring your own kayak or get one from Liquid Fusion Kayaking.
  • Noyo Harbor Beach
  • Glass Beach
  • Pudding Creek Beach
  • Inland Pudding Creek – Call for details.
  • Virgin Creek Beach
  • MacKerricher Beach – Meet at the Laguna Point (boardwalk) parking area
  • Ward Avenue Beach – Meet at the parking area off of Ward Avenue
  • Seaside Beach

Large volunteer groups (over 10 people) are encouraged to register for a site prior to the event.  Small groups or individuals are welcome to help at any site they would like to and do not need to register.  Volunteers are welcome to bring their own gloves if they would prefer.  There is also a small Coastal Cleanup Day Volunteer Appreciation Light Lunch provided by the Land Trust at Big River Beach at noon for CCD volunteers on the same day – lunch is limited to the first 75 volunteers.Coastal Cleanup Photo
