7 Day Itineraries for Couples

Day 1 - What kind of experience would you like? Wild or mild?

Would you prefer a stroll through the meadows, along sea cliffs and through the forest of the 47-acre Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens (for birding, beautiful and exotic plants, and fresh air)?

Or whitewater ocean kayaking through the rock gardens in Noyo Harbor?

Day 2 - Visit Glass Beach, then take a long bike ride on the Haul Road through MacKerricher State Park. Bikes available for rental at Fort Bragg Cyclery.

In the afternoon, tour the downtown, looking in shops, checking out art galleries.

Take the self-guided Oddities Tour.

Visit the Guest House and Triangle Tattoo Museums on Main Street.

Pick up the brochure, "Street Corners and Alleys of Fort Bragg", for a trip through local history.

For an afternoon break, slip into a downtown eatery for coffee, cookies or ice cream.

Check out the movies at Coast Cinemas. Or hang out in a restaurant or pub.

Day 3 – Start your day with a run on the beach or workout at the the C.V. Starr Center (pool, weights, spin classes).

 

Hike to the Russian Gulch Waterfall (five miles roundtrip).

 

Sunset: Laguna Point

 

Tango (lessons available) the night away at the Weller House or hang out in a coffee shop, brew pub or wine bar.

 

Day 4 – Go wine tasting.

 

Buy a picnic lunch and drive north along the sand dunes of Ten Mile Beach to Pacific Star 15 miles north of Fort Bragg. The coast views from the picnic benches are stunning (Pacific Star also operates a tasting room in the Depot Building on Main Street).

 

Sunset: Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic park

 

Alternatives: Explore Otis Johnson Park or hike to the Russian Gulch State Park Waterfall.


 

Day 5 – Have a couples spa day: relax in a soaking tub, enjoy a sauna or spring for massages at Bamboo Garden Spa in the Company Store. Before or after, hike Jug Handle Nature Reserve through the redwoods to the Hans Jenny Pygmy Forest.

Day 6 - Hike the Forest History Trail in Jackson State Forest.

Sunset: Sunset Beach


Day 7 - Rent a bike at Fort Bragg Cyclery, then ride to Virgin Creek Beach for tidepooling at low tide.

Picnic and or / walk on Ten Mile Beach. Or fish Cleone Lake from shore.

Alternatives: if you're a photography buff, stop by the Mendocino Coast Photographers Guild and Gallery on Main Street where you’ll meet local photographers who will share their tips for where to find the best pictures of wildlife or sunsets.


The Laguna Point deck at Fort Bragg Beach in MacKerricher State Park is a great place to watch big waves, birds of all kinds and even surfers.
