Dine Out in Fort Bragg on New Year’s Eve
Crab, Wine, and Beer Festival January 19-28
Visit Mendocino has put together a dazzling array of activities to banish the January blues, and luckily here in our county we are blessed with many sunny days in January, so it’s a good time to visit Fort Bragg. Our events lined up during the festival include The Annual Pink Flamingo Crab Feed at Weller House January 20, or enjoy Tea and Crab Savories at Weller House that Sunday, January 21. Also on Sunday is the Crab and Crémant event on the Skunk Train, featuring a delectable crab chowder lunch and Scharffenberger Crémant or Navarro Vineyards grape juice for kiddies or non-drinkers. Gluten and dairy-free options are also available on the train.
Blue Collar Winemaker Dinner and Cioppino Dinner
Cucina Verona has a lovely Blue Collar Winemaker Dinner guaranteed to satisfy your crustaceous cravings on a budget starting at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, January 23. Friday, January 26 is the night for a Cioppino Dinner with three seatings (4:00, 6:00, 8:00) at Pentecost Hall. The giant cioppino pot simply brims with seafood, shellfish and Dungeness crab served family style with Cafe Beaujolais bread, salad, and dessert. Beers from North Coast Brewery and Mendocino County wines will whet your palate, and a silent auction and raffle are bound to ensure a lively evening.
Fort Bragg Firehouse Crab Feed and Crab Cake Cook-Off
Saturday January 27
Oh my goodness, the crab feed is truly a fine feast featuring all you can eat crab, clam chowder, salad, bread and dessert from noon to 6:00 pm. My son says this is the best crab feed he’s ever experienced, and he’s a connoisseur of crab. A child under 10 years old admitted free with each adult ticket, and the Beachcomber Motel is offering a special price for lodging when you show your ticket. After that feast, you may have to rest awhile on one of their comfortable beds. One of the highlights of the festival is always the Crab Cake Cook Off and Wine Tasting Competition in the big white tent on the corner of Spruce and Main in Fort Bragg, and you get to vote for your favorite Mendocino county chef when you attend.
