I’d never seen shoes like this before this weekend, and suddenly there were multiple people walking around in funny fingered footwear. Leave it to the raw foodies to be on the cutting edge of everything…
The Living Light Raw Food Culinary Institute hosted its 5th annual Vibrant Living Expo in downtown Fort Bragg from Aug. 21-23. The 3 day event featured many renowned speakers and culinary exhibitions.
I camped out in the Company Store this weekend and attended as many workshops as my wheatgrass shots could get me through. I wouldn’t call myself a raw foodist by any stretch, but I am interested in new ways of eating and living, and I learned a ton.
Highlights? Howard Lyman, known as the Mad Cowboy, former cattle rancher-turned-vegan talking about the beef industry. Don Weaver discussing the need to remineralize the soil with rock dust. Paul Nison with his gruff New York humor laying it out simply: Eat Less, Sleep more, and don’t be one of those people who rushes off to yoga class to relax!
What I’m taking from it: No matter what you eat, don’t overeat, drink enough water and get plenty of sleep. Eat real food, mostly fruits and vegetables and not too much chocolate (sigh…). And even if you do all that – and wear fingered shoes – you won’t be healthy or happy if you hate your job, if you’re too stressed out, or if your human relationships aren’t fulfilling you.
Excerpts from the expo will be broadcast on local TV throughout the year, and are available on the internet. For more info about the expo, click here.
