The weather was perfect, the events were packed, there were some new things and some old favorites returned. We said good-bye to Norm Shandel, Paul Bunyan for the last 40 years, and hello to Mike Stephens – the new Paul, who taught us to hoot like an owl.

Women and men won more than $8,500 in cash prizes at the Logging Show,  an 8ft weather balloon with 35ft streamers escaped from the Forest Expo and flew off to who knows where.

Stella upset the Ugly Dog Contest by winning first place over Rascal. Smokey Bear, the Kangaroo Kort, and the Keystone Cops all showed up at the Logging Show to see the crowning of the Belle of the Redwoods.

We set 2 records – 1 for the Largest Dog Bed and another for the Biggest Dog Pile.

The Humboldt State marching band stole the show at the parade – again. And the Coast Guard did an impressive flyover.

We’ll let you know where and when photos and videos of the events are posted. Meanwhile, if you’re wondering who won prizes at the parade, logging show, pillow fight, dog contest, kiddie parade, tricycle race, belle of the redwoods, or dress review, visit the Paul Bunyan Days web site for a complete list.

Paul Bunyan Days is put on by the community, for the people who live here. Donations, sponsorships and volunteer labor make it possible to have so many free and inexpensive events.

If you didn’t attend this year, put it on your calendar for next Labor Day Weekend.

If you’d like to help with the celebration next year, send an email to the association at info@paulbunyandays.com.
