The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens has opened a new café on the premises, serving reasonably priced, fresh, locally produced foods in a garden setting created by local design experts and whimsically populated with the work of local artists. It’s called Rhody’s, and it’s quickly drawing an enthusiastic following. The café is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Café manager Susan Gebers works closely with Margaret Fox, chief chef for Harvest Market, on producing soups, salads, sandwiches paninis, polenta and portabella pizzas. Fox has also created a special ice cream sandwich — exclusive to the Gardens — called Margaret’s Mendocino Magic. Take a minute and check out the complete menu.

“We think Rhody’s Garden Café is an important amenity for the Gardens and expect it to become a wonderful meeting place for the community,” says Mary Anne Payne, Executive Director. “It is a great place to meet friends for a cup of coffee or grab a bite to eat after a walk in the Gardens. You can also purchase a picnic lunch to take with you as you wander. It is the perfect complement to the store, nursery and garden experience.”
