Thanks to Fort Bragg residents who approved a small tax to raise money for the C.V. Starr Center, the center will re-open on July 28.

Locals — and visitors who’ve taken their kids there during holidays — will understand what a tragedy it was to have the still near-new center  (the result of decades of planning, saving and dreams) —  fall victim to the economy and lack of public funding for administrative costs.

Here’s what C.V. Starr offer:   an 8-lane competition lap pool with diving board; a leisure/recreation pool with a zero-depth entry and play features; a water slide; a lazy river; a cardio/exercise room; fitness and swim classes; a skate park; a dog park; petanque courts; BBQ facilities and meetings rooms.

A brief ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on re-opening day to acknowledge the extraordinary community effort that resulted in the passage of Measure A which has secured the future of the C.V. Starr Community Center.
