When I was a kid, Easter was a time when normally rational parents gave live ducklings to their kids in their Easter basket. Thankfully, people realized this was inhumane and the practice soon ended.
So my heart sank when I received an email with the subject line:
I felt much better when I opened the email:
“Hoping to get a couple ducklings to act as pest control in an organic garden. Will have plenty of love, attention, shelter and delicious bugs to eat. If anyone in the area is expecting ducklings or knows someone who is, please let me know! Would love to get them from someone local… Would prefer a breed like Cayuga, as they’re calm and quiet.”
I forgot this is Fort Bragg, where people love critters and know how to include them in our lives.
