Spring and Summer are prime tourist seasons on the Northern California Coast, but each season offers its own rewards for traveling here. You can enjoy a romantic stay in a local Bed & Breakfast inn, motel or cottage. You might enjoy camping with your family. Whether you’re seeking serenity or a more active vacation, Fort Bragg offers something for everyone, in a friendly, welcoming community. Many people who visit end up staying, or retiring here later!
There are also many great restaurants, cafes, bars, and a world-class microbrewery and with live jazz. If you love to shop, there are a variety of charming local boutiques and specialty stores, many within walking or short driving distance from motels and inns. You’ll also find art galleries, bookstores and entertainment events to attend on the North Coast almost every day or night of the week, year-round.
For the life-long learner, there are many opportunities to take classes and workshops in a variety of topic areas. You can also attend the world-famous Mendocino Coast Writers Conference, or the film and music festivals held down the coast, in the village of Mendocino. There are many annual special events produced by local organizations, some of which benefit good causes on the coast.

In addition to hiking, you can enjoy biking, motorcycling, or a quieter activity, like bird watching and wildlife viewing. Perhaps you would enjoy photographing, sketching, or painting a beautiful nature scene, if you’re artistically inclined.
You can take a horseback ride on the beach or on a forest trail. Watch an amazing sunset from a vista point along the coast. There’s even a restored, historic lighthouse that you can visit, Point Cabrillo Lighthouse.
The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens are also located just south of Fort Bragg. This is a beautiful place to enjoy a hike to the sea, while learning about the natural history of the area and viewing gorgeous flowers, native plants, and trees and plants imported from other places in the world. There are also public artworks located within the grounds. You can read about more local attractions to explore here.
Perhaps you’ve always dreamed of paddling a kayak down the Noyo River. Of course there’s also the option of experiencing a more rugged thrill by kayaking in the ocean, from cove to cove. You can rent a kayak for yourself or a group and receive thorough instructions for either kind of adventure.
There are also fishing and whale watching boat trips available at different times of the year. Of course, the North Coast is also a prime place for surfing, for those who are experienced and are aware of the safety risks involved, due to powerful ocean currents.
For indoor swimming, a work-out, and other athletic activities, you’ll want to check out the C.V. Starr Center in Fort Bragg. They have great deals on individual and family memberships, and visitors’ passes.
