Valentine’s Day falls mid week this year, which may call for a mini-vacation for you and your sweetheart. Temperatures here have been in the mid-60s with lots of sunny days, and February can be a harbinger of Spring and romance – think daffodils!
We’ve got some fun activities scheduled in Fort Bragg and environs from the weekend before to the weekend after Valentine’s Day. On Saturday, February 10, Gloriana Musical Theatre presents the 3rd Annual Cabaret Dinner and Auction from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Eagles Hall. Dinner includes Lasagna (meat or vegan with gluten-free option available), garden salad, garlic bread and dessert bar with live music from Gloriana favorites, and a live auction. This is an all ages event, with beer and wine available for the adults in the crowd.
On Saturday February 10 and 17, the Skunk Train presents a unique Valentine’s Day Couples’ Cocktail Hour Ride featuring signature Cupid’s Arrow Cocktails and a selection of savory appetizers plus a sweet treat. Train leaves Fort Bragg at 5:00 p.m. both weekends.
Also on Saturday, February 17, the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens offers a timely Rose Revival workshop from 10:00 a.m. to noon with staff gardener Mishele Stettenbenz. Bring new life to your rose garden for season-long blooms! Learn how to prune and shape your rose bushes and other ornamental shrubs. Garden roses smell the sweetest, and will give you beautiful blooms from early Summer through the Fall.

Did you know that Mardi Gras falls on February 13th this year? Local restaurant Cucina Verona has a Mardi Gras special menu lined up for the occasion with yummy dishes like Oysters Rockefeller Soup, Fettuccine Jambalaya, and Pork Grillades and Grits with Slow-Cooked Collard Greens. Don’t miss Chef Joe’s Bananas Foster for the sweet ending to your meal. They’ve also created a special Valentine’s Day menu with Prosecco Cocktail with Black Pepper Raspberry Sorbet and special entrees like Capellini Pasta and Lobster in a Leek-Tarragon Cream. On Sunday, February 18, the Temple of Kwan Tai will host their delicious Chinese New Year’s banquet and silent auction at 6:30 pm, in Crown Hall, Mendocino. Silent auction items can be viewed on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Seating is limited, so call for tickets at 937-5123.
