June Events and Celebrations: Mendocino Eco Artists opening reception, “In Land We Trust” is Saturday, June 9th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Stanford Inn by the Sea. This show benefits the Mendocino Land Trust and will continue through August 31. Mendocino Eco Artists are a group of professional painters, sculptors, and photographers who live, work, and draw their creative inspiration from our beautiful region. They partner with local environmental groups, using art to raise public awareness of ecological challenges, while helping promote conservation and restoration of the local environment. The Stanford Inn is a spectacular eco-resort with a vegan restaurant, The Ravens, serving a menu based on locally harvested products from “seaweed to chanterelles”. Fourth of July Events and Celebrations on the Mendocino Coast
Carnival by the Sea takes place July 26th through 29th in the field at the intersection of Hwy 1 and Hwy 20. Advance discount tickets are $25 for all day, unlimited rides ($30 at the door). Tickets are available at Harvest Market in the Boatyard, La Bamba, or online.
The Flynn Creek Circus starts the celebrations off right with their 2018 season hit show, Adrift, at Friendship Park in Mendocino July 2-7. Adrift is a hilarious circus odyssey featuring huge acrobatics that are riotously funny and dangerously inspiring—ultra-engaging for all ages! Flynn Creek Circus is also offering a Circus Camp for 7-14 year old kids under the big top June 27 to July 1, from 10:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. daily. It’s a wonderful time of year to enjoy all of the events, celebrations, and festivities. Enjoy the eclectic people and floats who surface for the annual parade on Wednesday, the fourth of July. You’ll see cops on horseback, all kinds of animals, people in wild costumes, and lots of merriment and fun on the streets of Mendocino. This year’s parade theme is American Pie— pick up an application at the Chamber of Commerce office at 217 South Main Street in Fort Bragg. The 4th of July wouldn’t be complete without a Fireworks Display! The fireworks celebration starts at 9:00 p.m on Saturday, July 7, and is best viewed from Pomo Bluffs Park on Todd’s Point in Fort Bragg. There will be plenty of signs pointing to parking for the event.
World’s Largest Salmon BBQ
Some of the biggest crowds of the summer gather in Fort Bragg every year for the World’s Largest Salmon BBQ. This year the Salmon Restoration Organization holds its 47th annual celebration of wild salmon on Saturday, July 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event is the main fund raiser to help Noyo River, Big River, and other northern California rivers restore their once plentiful salmon runs. Queue up for a good cause, and enjoy salmon, corn on the cob, french bread, wine, beer, music and other yummy delights. Get your pre-tickets here.
