There is more than one way to enjoy wild times on the Mendocino Coast this April. The 2nd Annual Almost Fringe Festival is an enjoyable way to dip your toes into the art scene in Fort Bragg and beyond. You’ll find an eclectic mix of activities on the coast – from elegant to zany all month long!
You might start out on Friday, April 13 listening to Tenor Madness’s “Left Coast Jazz” quintet with everything from swing standards and West Coast cool jazz, to funk, blues, New Orleans stylings and Latin jazz. Get a snack or choose from the full dinner menu while you delight in some great music at North Coast Brewing Company’s Sequoia Room. Check all the details here.
Ironing as Art
Okay, we can’t resist this one. Who would believe ironing could be art? Just travel over to Partners Gallery on Franklin Street in Fort Bragg and catch up on your ironing. Bring wrinkled (but clean!) clothing to be pressed, or simply share your memories and philosophy about what ironing means to you with the artists and visitors in the gallery. Wow – that’s wild.
Installation Art on a Shed
Artist Jacob Hewko is creating a large-scale painting of rhododendrons on the south facing side of the shed behind Coast hardware. Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens and Flockworks are collaborating on this street art project and will add to the kaleidoscope of murals on stores and in alleys around the city of Fort Bragg in the months to come. This town is rockin it!
UkeFest for Young and Older
The Redwood Coast Senior Center gets into the action with a UkeFest Kick-Off on Friday, April 13 . Jammin’ begins at 7:00 p.m. with sing-alongs and fun for all ages. Oh My Goddess with Sherry Glaser
A comedy of biblical proportions, Oh My Goddess features two riveting characters, Miguel De Cervantes and Ma, the Great Jewish Mother of us all, both played by local artist and internationally known playwright, comedienne, commentator, and political activist Sherry Glaser, born and raised in New York City. We’ve seen the show, and it is both powerful and fantastically funny! At the Gathering Place in The Company Store April 28 from 2:00 -4:00 p.m.
