pet friendly fort bragg

FORT BRAGG, Calif. – If you ask Hobbs Ferretti, he’ll tell you Fort Bragg has gone to the dogs. Okay, Hobbs is a dog – a Chihuahua-Miniature Pinscher mix – and can’t actually talk. But that’s all right because Fort Bragg has an animal communicator, Carol Becker, who can translate. When it comes to pooches, no popular tourist destination is more pet-friendly.

It is also true that Hobbs is mayor of Fort Bragg’s two off-leash dog parks which are popular places for pups and owners. He’s likely to be hanging out at one of them on any given day. So, when you bring your dog to Fort Bragg, think about spending some time with Hobbs and company or venturing out with your own four-footed friend.

Visiting dogs and their people have some pretty unusual fun in Fort Bragg – they’ve covered their paws with paint and created Jackson Pollock-like artwork, gathered with their canine pals for a pup pajama party with prizes for best (night) dressed dog, and enjoyed a group ‘dog paddle’ kayak outing up Noyo River in Fort Bragg.

“Dogs get free ice cream at Cowlick’s, are greeted with fresh water and dog treats in most downtown shops, participate in our First Friday Art Walks, compete in the oldest Ugly Dog contest, and just hang out with their pals. We think we’re probably America’s pet-friendliest place. Where else has both a human and a dog mayor?”

  1. Patty Craven

    Motel 6 is dog-friendly too!

  2. David

Is this park on the base itself and if not is there any restrictions for dogs to visit the base for the day ?

    1. Sharon Davis

Hi David, there is no military base here. You may be thinking of Fort Bragg, NC where there is an active military base.

  3. Tannith Mitchell

Thank you this information is really helpful!!

  4. Judy

You do not have to have an enclosed carrier for your dog on the Skunk Train. A leash is all you need.

    1. Sharon Davis

Thank you Judy. I’ve made that correction.
